Goal: Increase targeted organic traffic
Industry: Custom Software Development Company
Period: June 2018 – till now
Results: the result is an increase from 9k to 20k in just a year.
Goals to achieve
Increase organic (unpaid) website traffic
- Increase organic (unpaid) website traffic
- Increase MQL/SQL
- Create a blog development roadmap and implement it
In brief: what we’ve done
We instantly realized that the work would be related simultaneously to blog development and the improvement of commercial pages’ structure. We intended not only to increase organic traffic but also to grow the number of leads.
We split up the work into 2 phases:
Phase 1: technical audit and search for fast growth points. Scoring and prioritization
As part of the audit, we drew up a technical specification for the initial optimization and outlined the ways to address basic issues:
- Technical duplicates
- Errors in sitemap generation
- Duplicate meta tags
- Duplicate pages
- No https protocol
- Open blank pages for indexing
- SEO-friendly URLs
- No micro-markup
While programmers were fixing the issues, we focused on collecting basic semantics and scoring to find growth points and expand the website structure with the essential landing pages.
Here is how the new website structure looks like after the redesign:
The structure is constantly expanding. It gets supplemented as we search for new semantics.
NB. When collecting keywords for IT topics, it is crucial to understand the intent (desire) a user implies by the keyword he/she enters. For instance:
If your keyword is “app development,” the search engine will give you information websites, Wikipedia, collections. Despite the apparent relevance, these are not commercial search results.
But if your keyword is ‘mobile app development company”, the results will show companies and collections. Hence, the true intent of a user is to create a development company.
After scoring and prioritization, we decided to focus on the development of commercial pages in the following areas:
- Enterprise software development
- Enterprise mobile app development
- Offshore software development
- IT strategy consulting
- software product development
- IT staff augmentation
- SAAS development
The decision to focus on mid-frequency requests was originally associated with relatively small competition and growing demand.
Besides, web admins rejected low-quality links provided by the previous contractor:
As for commercial pages, we have created prototypes and drawn up a technical specification for the On-page.
We worked on link building through the outreach of high-quality websites matched by the TOP websites’ information semantics. We analyzed fast-growing competitors, their link profiles, and strategies.
Working on the blog
We refined old blog articles, particularly their content, keyword entry, linking, etc. We decided to connect articles with commercial intent to the relevant commercial pages to boost them.
In just three months of promotion, organic traffic grew from 9133 to 12525. And after a year, it grew by 735%, up to 20,044 users.
The keys to successful project promotion are the following:
- Well-elaborated technical website SEO
- On-page optimization
- Website structure expansion
- Correct link-building with good progression from quality websites
- Extension of blog articles with commercial intents
NB. It’s crucial to work not only on increasing traffic but also on increasing MQL/SQL. For this, you need to consider many factors, correctly build the semantic core, and work on the on-page optimization. This way, you will get results soon.
