fbpx SEO + AEO Package: Get Found in AI and Google Top at a Special Price

Techstack is a strategic technology partner for startups, midsize companies, and enterprises. Its product engineering team helps clients build, scale, and evolve software products. Legacy system modernization is one of the company’s core areas. Alongside classic SEO, Techstack decided to test AEO as a new promotion channel.

Goal

We had to find out whether, within 1 month, the company could get mentioned in AI system answers for a predefined pool of commercial prompts on Legacy System Modernization.

A one-off brand mention was not the goal in itself. We also needed to understand:

  • which query types work best for AEO;
  • which competitors LLMs already recommend;
  • which sources AI systems rely on in their answers;
  • which platforms offer the fastest way to influence the results.

Analysis and Strategy

We started with analysis: based on existing search queries, we built a pool of LLM prompts. For each prompt, we identified:

  • intent — transactional or informational;
  • presence of a Google AI Overview;
  • current mentions of the client;
  • competitors in LLM answers;
  • sources used by Google AI Overview, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other AI systems;
  • answer stability;
  • platforms and content types that could earn a mention.

Based on the analysis, we selected priority commercial prompts, such as “best legacy system modernization companies.”

The analysis showed that AI systems build recommendations not only from company websites. Their sources include third-party articles, company rankings and roundups, Medium, Reddit, and industry publications. This shaped the strategy: we had to work not only with the client’s own website but with every source the AI recommendations for the client’s queries were drawn from.

So we ran the work in two parallel directions:

  1. Own website: a service page, case studies, and informational content on the topic.
  2. External information field: the company’s presence in materials and on platforms that LLMs already use, or may use, as sources.

The external direction was what made a one-month result possible. Waiting for the client’s website to gain AI visibility made no sense within that timeframe, so we went straight to the sources LLMs already work with.

What We Did and What We Got

To fit the test period, we launched several workstreams at once:

  • created a service page for Legacy System Modernization;
  • added modernization case studies to the website;
  • published topical blog articles;
  • created parasite articles on high-authority platforms and ranked them in the top results;
  • performed Link Inserts in articles that LLMs use as sources;
  • placed guest posts on platforms with strong AI visibility;
  • placed company mentions on Reddit.

The first results for priority commercial prompts appeared within the test period.

Google AI Overview

The company appeared in Google AI Overview, and the parasite articles we created began to be used as sources for the AI answer.

The articles where we performed Link Inserts also became answer sources.

ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, the parasite articles and Link Insert materials likewise began to be used as sources for answers to priority prompts.

However, brand presence here was unstable. In some checks, ChatGPT relied on our materials but left the company out of the final list; in others, it mentioned the company directly.

ChatGPT: a direct mention of the company in the answer

The dynamics are clearly visible on the May brand coverage chart (Otterly.AI, 15 prompts, US):

  • up to May 19 — occasional mentions at ~10%;
  • May 20–21 — growth to ~20%;
  • from May 23 — fluctuations between 30% and 58%.

Grok

Grok also mentioned the company, citing the article we created on Medium.

Perplexity

Perplexity did not mention the company directly during the control check.

Overall LLM Visibility

Overall dynamics across all priority AI systems (Otterly.AI, 15 prompts, US):

  • May 1–20 — 3–8%;
  • from May 21 — growth to 20%;
  • peak — ~28% (May 25–27);
  • end of month — ~17%.

Traffic from AI Sources

The visibility growth was reflected in traffic from AI systems:

  • total — 23 users (+9.5%), 31 sessions;
  • chatgpt.com / referral — 8 users (+166.7%);
  • gemini.google.com / referral — 8 users (+100%).

Experiment Summary

In 1 month, we went from analyzing LLM results and developing a strategy to:

  • the company appearing in AI results for priority commercial prompts;
  • our parasite articles being used as LLM answer sources;
  • articles with Link Inserts being used as LLM answer sources;
  • direct brand mentions and links to the website in AI systems.

Crucially, the experiment confirmed that LLM results can be influenced not only through the company’s own website but also through external sources. AEO is managed work with the information field around a specific intent, not just optimizing your own website for LLMs.

At the same time, LLM results are far less stable than classic search results. Getting a material into the sources does not guarantee a consistent brand mention, and the set of recommended companies can change between checks.

Why It Worked

We did not follow the classic “create content and wait for the website to grow” path. The strategy was built from the existing LLM results: first we identified whom AI systems recommend and which sources they rely on, and only then chose specific points of influence.

This let us work on several levels of presence at once:

Own website → External publications → Existing LLM sources → Reddit/UGC → LLM answers

Parasite content and Link Inserts delivered the most telling result: materials created during the experiment became AI answer sources within the test period.
